Earlier this morning I stepped out into the frosty air exclaiming, "I should've started the car earlier". My 7 year old son then said to me, "Mom, I told you yesterday that it was gonna be cold for six more weeks. The groundhog saw it's shadow.
Well he schooled me and I had to laugh. Message received loud and clear.
Every year Wisconsin peeps talk about how cold it is and wish for something warmer. Last week we went through what felt like a giant heat wave. It was 20-30 degree weather. That is the difference between wearing your walking shoes in the slush and donning your insulated boots for a walk on snow and ice.
It was nice while it lasted. My son's class even had a themed Hawaiian party last week at school.
There are a few benefits to the cold weather. There's ice fishing...so not for me but people live for this here on the lake during the weekends. There's my pair of tall black boots and pretty sweater dresses I get to wear during this season and get my chic on.
A girl's gotta have her design cuisine for all seasons, don't ya know.
During winter we use the fireplace quite a bit and it makes a great gathering place. Even my pre-teen daughter is more inclined to stay in the living room rather than hidden away in her room when the fire is crackling. Let's not forget hot chocolate with a few chocolate bark shavings and some whip cream.
When I've been really good I might just add a swig of Bailey's to my hot chocolate drink.
The snowmobiles blaze trails through the snowy landscape. The runners still pursue their foot furious goals. There is skiing and some neighboring malls even have skating rinks. Sports continue to run in full swing.
It might be cold in Wisconsin but there is no lack of activity.
Today I am enjoying the sun pouringin through the windows. The cold just isn't so bad when you are inside, warm, and the grey blur that the winter skies tend to yield has been banished by a great ball of fire in the sky yielding it's rays upon the still snowy landscape that is Southeastern Wisconsin.
Only a few more months and then it will be Spring.
